Father and Son Tim and James Olsen Father and Son after Janus, Oil on Canvas, 2012
My most recent portrait. Tim and James Olsen with reference made to the famous self portrait by John Olsen in the background. James has a knowing look and Tim sits squarely in his fatherly devotion. Visual references are made to generational ties, the passage of time and the two faces of Janus. Thank you Tim.

Portrait of Avis Portrait of Avis, Oil on Canvas, 2011
Latest commission for a beautiful, strong and inspiring woman. She has a beautiful scar (after losing her breast to cancer) but her ability to let me into her heart and share with me her complete story have made and imprint that will stay with me forever. Let the healing begin, be brave and embrace love and abundance.

Breaking Ground
30th June – 29th July 2012

Presented by Country Arts SA in partnership with the Adelaide Festival Centre.
Artspace Gallery, Adelaide Festival Centre.

An exhibition of work by Yvonne East combining traditional drawing and painting techniques with multimedia installation to investigate the physical and psychological connection with the Australian landscape.

Acknowledged in folklore, fiction and film the Australian landscape has an extraordinary influence on its inhabitants. This work interrogates the psyche of land and the unique dissonance created by the comparison of the urban and rural. The body, mind and soul represented by subjects caught in the stasis of what may be religious epiphany. Charcoal drawings of the human figure become a metaphor for the tension between the internal mind and how we relate to the 'outside' environment and community. Uniting old masters techniques with 21st century technology, we are encouraged to see how the Australian environment correlates to our psychological state as an individual and as a society.

Breaking Ground is the inaugural Country Arts SA Visual Artist Professional Development Award which provides a practicing contemporary visual artist from country South Australia with the opportunity to develop a body of work for exhibition in a major gallery space in metropolitan Adelaide including a mentorship opportunity to further their career. www.adelaidefestivalcentre.com.au
